Oops! Was I supposed to leave a torch burning into August? Sorry! I guess I didn't get the memo. Here it is. I kind of thought the anniversary celebration was just a July thing. (The phrase "does not follow directions" frequently appeared on my report cards growing up. I'm not sure whether I'm proud or ashamed of this fact.)
I don't have AOL by Phone, so I'm not going to do a speech or anything for the festivities. However, just for fun, I''ve posted an AIFF file I did on my Mac in January 2003 as part of a PowerPoint presentation for school. The file is self-explanatory. http://www.mavarin.com/slide3.aiff
While I'm at it, let me just say that I've been sampling the other journals on the Editor's Pick list, and also the ones people are putting into their comments here as URLs. It would be easy to end up with a list of 50 or 100 journals worth reading on a regular basis. Between school and work and trying to get 1200 pages semi-edited, I don't have time for that. Still, I'm impressed with the other journals in the top five this week, and most of the other ones I've looked at recently.
I thought about posting a list of my favorite AOL Journals (at least for the week) next Wednesday, but I've decided not to try to set myself up as a judge of such things. It wouldn't be fair. First of all, who am I to say what's worthy? Second, there are thousands of AOL journals, and I probably won't have looked at more than 100 this week. (I have no doubt that somewhere in AOL-J Land, a person who doesn't believe in self-promotion is writing outstanding prose for a readership of three people.) Third, of the journals I do read, there will be some that are really well done, but I won't like them much because of the style, attitude or subject matter.
Nevertheless, I recommend that we all check out as many journals as our schedules allow, not just the most popular ones but also ones that sound interesting, based on their comments, their responses to Weekend Assignments and random recommendations. Even a highly popular journal (as great as some of them are) may turn out to be less interesting to a given person than an obscure one that hits all the right emotional buttons in subject, style and opinions.

You do have your hands full yet, you get out there, read journals and better yet you left a comment with a LINK! (I LOVE that) Though I would've found you today when I went down the rest of the editor picks ... CONGRATULATIONS!. There way too many journals available for our reading enjoyment. I could make it a full time job if it paid! Do you use bloglines at all for your journals? It actually helps me ... a tiny bit. Before I sign off, I ALWAYS had the phrase "does not follow directions" on my report card! I'd say at the moment I feel like I'm in good company so it's a GOOD thing!
