Fun Find While I Should Have Been Working

Aside to AOL: Journals need a lot more "mood" options.  Color this one "stressed," "contrite" and "amused":

A search for my sixth grade French teacher (I'll write about her later; Vivian already knows the story but I want to flesh it out a bit) accidentally turned up the following site:

http://www.googlism.com/index.htm

What it apparently does is collect bits of abbreviated search results from Google for humorous effect.  Here's a little one, based on a private school in Manlius, NY (that's another story I'll have to tell at some point):

Googlism for: manlius pebble hill school
manlius pebble hill school is a non
manlius pebble hill school is a prek
manlius pebble hill school is a junior at fairleigh dickinson university in madison
manlius pebble hill school is offering a variety of summer programs for ages 4

manlius pebble hill is central new york’s only non
manlius pebble hill is an independent day school
manlius pebble hill is a highly respected private school that calls dewitt home
manlius pebble hill is a highly regarded private school located in manlius
manlius pebble hill is a private

And a selection from the results for my maiden name:

Googlism for: funk

funk is the
funk is the way
funk is instrumental
funk is now harmful matter
funk is okay
funk is up
funk is everyone?
funk is pink
funk is tiki?
funk is dead
funk is early'
funk is an abbotsford real
funk is a mmorpg you ask?
funk is for
funk is final player named for wentworth
funk is the one on the right
funk is terug door da huge
funk is back
funk is the enemy jesse jarnow 2002
funk is a many splendored thing
funk is its own reward by jackson griffith
funk is on
funk is now harmful matter you should be forwarded automatically
funk is up? august 1999
funk is hard to describe without being able just to pump it straight into your earholes
funk is at
funk is currently under construction

I especially like that "funk is tiki?"

Sadly, however,

Googlism for: mavarin
Sorry, Google doesn't know enough about mavarin yet.

Googlism was similarly ignorant of L'Engle, so I don't feel too badly.  It did have lots to say about "Joss" (not all of them about Whedon), "Buffy" (ranging from extreme disapproval to extreme approval) and Harlan Ellison (almost all complimentary). The site obviously works best for subjects that hundreds of sites, uh, cite.

Have fun(k)!

Karen

Howard - your comment precipitated the longest sustained fit of laughter I've had in a long time. I never knew you were "the intellectual and spiritual heart of every african american."  Good luck with that second aircraft, and congratulations on your unlikely ordination to the "preisthood!" Did they make you convert first? - K
